Three Defunct Minnesota Sports Teams

  • 21. The Minnesota Muskies

The Muskies were one of the founding members of the ABA in 1967 and had a successful season, fielding three all-stars and advancing to the semi-finals in the playoffs that season. Unfortunately their attendance was very low and the team lost $400,000 that season and quickly folded.

  1. The Minnesota North Stars

Also founded in 1967, the North Stars were a successful National Hockey League expansion team that advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals twice. In 1993 the team moved to Dallas, dropping the ‘North’ and becoming The Dallas Stars.

  1. The Minnesota Strikers

Reversing the trend of teams leaving Minnesota, the Strikers relocated from Fort Lauderdale in 1984 and played one season in the North American Soccer League and four seasons in the National Indoor Soccer League before folding.
